PINZ has been contracted to provide training and management services for the new Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic (SESP). The polytechnic, based in Baish in Saudi Arabias Jizan province, opened in September 2012 with an intake of 430 male students who started a 2.5-year training program. The students selected are mostly high school graduates at beginner English levels.
The training program begins with a year of ESL and foundation studies (maths, physics, health & safety and IT); followed by a year of technical training focused on mechanical and electrical engineering. Six months of on-the-job training in the power utility industry and related sectors completes their Diploma.
Up to 25 Technical Instructors will deliver the second year 3-trimester technical training programme. Students will build core knowledge in trimester 1 and undertake specialisation study in trimesters 2 and 3. The first rotation of the Year-2 program begins in September 2013. Technical Instructors must have experience teaching in at least one to two of the eight specialisations below:

The SESP will offer Saudi nationals a credible and relevant qualification, modern facilities and a supportive student environment. The aim is to produce highly competent work-ready graduates for industry. To achieve this, the SESP will liaise closely with its business partners and local community organizations and with international education providers.
PINZ is seeking applications from qualified candidates with strong electrical supply sector experience that includes current hands on industry experience, along with recent experience in tertiary training of electric supply industry workers. In addition to industry and training experience, we are seeking an HOD who can, in a challenging living and work environment, lead, support and inspire his team of up to 25 technical instructors.
The HODTechnical (HOD-T) reports to the Academic Director, and is accountable for all aspects of the planning, coordination and performance of the Technical Training Department. The HOD-T, supported by the Student Registrar, is expected to work closely with the Academic Director; the Industry Liaison Director; the HOD-Preparatory; other members of the Senior Management Team; the strategic partners (TVTC and SEC); Wintec; and the trainees.
Responsible for achieving positive technical training student outcomes; where training is relevant to industry needs;
To ensure that strategic planning and management of the Technical Training Department meets current and future needs of all stakeholders, including trainees, Saudi Electricity Company and Saudi Government agencies associated with SESP;
To provide leadership that creates valuable, positive, ongoing, and sustainable development within the Technical Training Department; and
To develop and manage strong and effective relationships with employers and external stakeholders.
Overall contractor package for this role is valued at around SAR535,000. It includes salary (SAR437,000 negotiable, subject to experience), accommodation and local transport allowance; furnished 2 bedroom accommodation with utilities and internet; a one-off relocation allowance; generous leave entitlement; private medical insurance; an initial one way economy class flights to Saudi; and two return economy class flights between Saudi and home base (for candidate and partner, if applicable) for each additional year of service.
All candidates need to be approved by PINZ initially, then validated with the SESP prior to their appointment being confirmed. Candidates are assessed according to the following criteria:
Resilience, courage and the ability to lead and inspire the technical trainer team;
At least 10 years experience in the Electrical Supply Industry, with experience in any of the related specialisations.
At least 5 years experience in the electrical supply industry vocational skills sector.
At least 3 years management level experience, with a preference that the candidate has some management experience in the education sector.
Bachelors level qualification in the Electrical Supply area. Masters or Doctorate level qualification in the same field preferred.
Ideally has experience in the Middle East and/or a Saudi training institution;
Prepared to commit for a minimum of 1 year, although preference given to candidates that can commit to at least two years of service;
Client has a preference for applicants aged between mid-20s and mid-50s; and
Native English speaker;
