Dedicated, flexible and creative ESL instructors needed in new program; be in on the ground -floor and on-going development of new program to provide English language and culture to predominantly Chinese pre-university students. Must be flexible and committed to development of the program as well as own professional development. Committed to working with a team of ESL professionals to ensure student success inside and outside the classroom. Will provide English language instruction in all levels and skills areas, with a possibility of teaching methodology classes. Ten-month contract (August May). Summer courses with additional compensation may be possible beginning in May 2013.

This position will begin late August 2013 and is for a 10-month, recurring appointment. Salary competitive.

Essential Functions:

Provide up to 20 hours of classroom instruction in English language, communication and culture per week
Provide feedback in order to improve program and materials
Develop and use a number of instructional methods to benefit the individual learners
Attend training sessions on program and materials use before courses begin
Participate in the on-going development of curriculum, courses, assessments, and materials
Hold office hours/tutoring lab supervision/student advising, approximately 6 hours per week
Assist with placement testing and evaluation of student learning
Attend weekly instructional training and professional development meetings
Contribute to the development of program policies and procedures
Work with instructors and university colleagues to best prepare students for university life

Candidates should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:

MA TESOL, MA in Applied Linguistics, MA in Second Language Teaching, or MA in a related field plus completion of a minimum of 15 credit hours in TESOL or Foreign Language Teaching courses

Fluency in oral and written English and excellent interpersonal skills

Commitment to professional development in TESOL

Ability to work as a team with ESL instructors and others in the campus community

Minimum 1 year ESL/EFL teaching experience

Knowledge of communicative language teaching approach

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of a second language;

International academic experience (instructor or student);

Teaching experience in a college setting

Experience in curriculum or materials development
