The post entails:
Responsibility for leading the curriculum area demonstrating extensive knowledge and understanding of the curriculum area and pedagogy.
Undertaking a leading role in developing workplace procedures and practice in promoting collective responsibility for their implementation.
Involvement in wider professional networks associated with the curriculum area.
Working closely with the senior leadership team in developing, implementing and evaluating policies and practice.
Line management of colleagues including undertaking staff appraisals and workload planning.
Development of innovative curriculum practices.
Teaching modules across ITT programmes, creating a positive and challenging learning environment.
Overseeing the co-ordination of appropriate modules and associated administrative tasks.
Leading students’ learning through contributing to written and online resources including module booklets and the virtual learning environment.
Designing appropriate formative and summative assessment activities that diagnose, challenge and enhance student attainment.
Designing and driving implementation of effective systems of review within the curriculum areas for forward planning and ensuring on-going monitoring.
Undertaking appropriate administrative duties, such as interviewing, and committee related work.
Supporting personal tutees.
Undertaking school experience supervision.
Using current research and government initiatives within the subject field and primary education to inform own practice and the practice of others.
Engaging in research, scholarship and publications that supports professional practice of self and others.
Becoming an active member of a research centre and contributing to the research culture of the School of Education and the University.
Leading and participating in enterprise activities such as INSET, consultancy and conferences.
Contributing to work which advances the broader aims of the School and the University.
Ensuring compliance by self and others with the quality standards and regulations of the University and other regulatory bodies.
Undertaking such other duties as may be requested by the Director of School.Outline of the Person.
The successful candidate will be expected to have:
Qualified Teaching Status (Primary) achieved in the United Kingdom.
Progressed through threshold, and held a senior leadership role within a primary school.
Taught across different age phases.
In-depth knowledge of all aspects of literacy with strength in early reading and systematic synthetic phonics.
A broad and theoretical understanding of primary subject teaching, both as a subject in its own right and across the curriculum.
An excellent understanding of recent government initiatives and their place within the history of primary subject teaching.
Attended a variety of subject specific professional development courses in recent years.
Undertaken research in professional practice or managed school improvement initiatives.
Extensive experience of mentoring IT trainees or NQTs.
Experience of running professional development activities within a primary school
A profile of, or potential for, successful research and publication.
Willingness to work collaboratively and to be able to motivate others to do so.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
The ability to work under pressure.
A higher degree (or working towards a higher degree) or other professional qualification/designation, preferably in the curriculum or a related subject.
Successful recent teaching experience of teaching in a state sector primary school in the United Kingdom.
In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following: EYFS, children's literature, grammar.
Carried out research in one of the following areas of literacy: early reading, SSP, EYFS, children’s literature, grammar.
Held the post of English co-ordinator within a primary school.
Achieved recognition for the quality of their teaching, such as excellent/advanced skill teacher, SLE, NLE or professional qualification.
