Center Director - Teacher-Trainers for new English Language Institute

The Higher Committee for Education Development in Iraq (HCEDI) and Ball State University announce an innovative, creative, first-of-its-kind partnership to develop an English Language Institute for Iraqi undergraduate and graduate scholarship recipients. This program will be housed within the International Zone in Baghdad, Iraq, adjacent to the HCEDI headquarters and less than one mile from the U.S. embassy, and will serve approximately 300 students a year. The goal of the program is to improve the Iraqi scholarship recipients English ability prior to their departure to an English-speaking country for university study.
We are seeking highly motivated, well-trained, creative individuals to serve as consultants to Ball State University and work with approximately 40 Iraqis who will be teaching in this program. To varying degrees, the scope of work for each of these consulting contracts will involve curriculum development and implementation, teaching Iraqi students and training teachers. This expatriate team will be working closely with a team of professionals from Ball State University to design and deliver a four-month training program to the teachers prior to the opening of the Institute. The expected start date is August 1, 2013. The initial contract is expected to be nine-months in duration, with the possibility of renewal.
Secure housing, international airfare to Baghdad at the beginning of the contract and from Baghdad at the end of the contract will be provided, as well as a travel stipend for one international flight during the December break between sessions.
The following consulting opportunities are available:
Consultant 1 - Director
Consulting services will include use of expertise to provide leadership and vision in all aspects of program development and administration, to provide general oversight of teacher training and curriculum implementation, to serve as a liaison between the program and all external entities and organizations, maintain close relationships between HCEDI and Ball State University, provide programmatic vision that will enable teachers and teacher-trainers to provide an excellent educational experience for the students and will include teaching one course per session to model best-practice in the Second Language Acquisition (SLA) field. Preference given to candidates with doctoral degrees.
Consultants 2, 3, & 4: EFL Teacher-Trainers
Consulting services will include working with Director and the Iraqi Associate Director to implement administration of all aspects of the program as needed, especially curriculum implementation, articulation and revision, mentoring and supervising teachers, faculty professional development, assessing program and instruction, and teaching 2-3 classes per session.
4 openings. Employer will assist with relocation costs.
Additional Salary Information: Compensation between $6,400.00 to $8,900.00 monthly. Successful applications will include documentation of experience and credentials appropriate to the scope of work described above. A masters level degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or closely related field is considered a minimum requirement. Experience in effective teaching at the college or university level plus experience in administration of an intensive English or comparable program is expected. Computer competency is also required.
Additional consideration will be given to applications from consultants with a Ph.D. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or closely related field; experience in curriculum revision and design; experience in project-based curriculum development; three years or more of administrative experience in an intensive English or comparable program.
