A teachers perspective:
Hello! Im currently a teacher at Aston English school in the small, beautiful, coastal city of Weihai in Shandong, China. Aston English operates more than 100 English schools in China and is now based in 22 provinces and in more than 88 cities. Though Aston is well established, our Weihai branch is still getting off its feet. The need for teachers is dire as is the need for strong leadership, creative minds and open hearts.
A writer on Lonely Planet quotes Weihai to be the best place for living in China, and its true that the city is radically different from any other. It's small, clean, cheap, and a perfect place to live for someone who wants to be healthy in a super polluted country, live in a relaxed town and speak tons of Chinese (standard Mandarin!). Weihai is also a great place for the outdoors; sloping hills, coastline and the ability to hike, bike and walk anywhere youd like safely make it an ideal getaway town. The city also has a little over 2 million people and is surrounded by ocean.
Through the somewhat haphazard logistical organization that will be found at virtually any smaller independent Chinese school, the Aston family shines as a truly happy, genuine people who are always willing to help. The school pays for everything you might need including medicine, materials and taxi fares to and from work locations.
Aston Weihai is the place for you if you are looking to save a lot of money (the salary is great and living is really cheap, my boyfriend and I are saving over 1,000 U.S. dollars/month), live in a stunning city that won't pollute your body and experience a rare glimpse of the more relaxed pace of rural China with the comforts of city life.
