English Teachers Needed in East Africa: Gondar and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Date: 2009-11-17 04:11:22, Location: Africa
Ethiopia, East Africa.
Teaching positions, grade levels Pre-K up to 8, open in Ethiopia, in Gondar and Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is experiencing a growing boom in primary education, as well as at higher levels. Ethiopia's national languages(Amharic which is spoken throughout Ethiopia, Tigrignya, Oromiffa, Guraginya, and dozens more) are the languages of Ethiopia, with no colonial legacy or full introduction of languages with bigger international applications.
Therefore, English is become the language of higher education due to the necessity of accessing a full range of international literature for higher education students and academics.
Young students who are privileged enough to learn English are usually the only ones who gain access to higher education. Therefore...
Ethiopia needs qualified and dedicated English teachers to be a part of this accelaration of quality education standards in Ethiopia. English teachers are highly needed to give our students a base in a language to allow more access to world wide information and education.
Ethiopia is not a country with an economy to support high salries for ESL teachers, when compared to Asian and other schools in other parts of the world. Although you will earn a salary, and accomodations, which are very comfortable by local standards. We are looking for bright, energetic applicants who see the opportunity to be part of an opportunity to participate in a capacity building effort to advance local education from the bottom, up.
All those interested or curious, who are Native English Speakers, with a Bachelor's or Associate's degree, or higher, and some relevant experience, please apply by first enquiring to: TeachinEthiopia@gmail.com
Salaries usually around 4,000 Ethiopian Birr per month, depending on experience(not much in dollars, but it is a comfortable amount to live on here).
Accomodation will usually be covered either in the form of an apartment, a communal house, a luxury hotel room, or compensation to allow the teacher to find their own housing.
Airfare reimbursement may be negotiated, depending on travelling costs (possibly with a limit) with reimbursement issued after completing a one year contract.
Contact TeachinEthiopia@gmail.com with your resume, a photo, and an email introduction of yourself. We will be happy to answer all questions with communication between you, the school, and current ex-patriot teachers here.
Thanks,
Beruk
