Japan: Assistant Professor in TEFL

Date: 2010-01-22 22:01:04, Location: Japan, Asia

Kansai Gaidai University
Originally established as a small private language school in 1945, Kansai Gaidai is currently a private nonprofit institution with some 13,000 students on 2 campuses. The institution includes Kansai Gaidai University (a 4-year university), Kansai Gaidai College (with 2-year AA program), and a graduate school.
The school is a leader in international education, sending around 1,600 students overseas each year and attracting over 700 foreign students.

Special 'Intensive English Studies' and 'Advanced English' courses provide Japanese students with the opportunity to study with well-qualified native speakers of English. A similar program is available for Spanish majors. Kansai Gaidai currently employs nearly 60 teachers (all under contracts as advertised here) in these programs for intensive language study on its 2 campuses.

Job Description
Kansai Gaidai University has an opening for an assistant professor in ESL, starting September 2010 and April 2011. This is a nontenure track position with a contract for one year, renewable up to a maximum of 5 years. The university is interested in midcareer professional ESL faculty who will make a serious commitment to its programs.

The teaching schedule is 15 hours, spread over 5 days (Monday-Friday). Occasional additional duties include interview tests for scholarship candidates, student advising, and other tasks as assigned by the school, typically less than 4 additional work days per year. Teachers are expected to be available to the university except during paid holidays which are August 5–September 6, December 23–January 4, and February 11–March 10.

How to Apply:
Send a CV and (preferably 3) letters of reference along with a cover letter expressing your interest in this ESL position, either by e-mail or by post.
