Originally established as a small private language school in 1945, Kansai Gaidai is currently a private nonprofit institution with some 13,000 students on 2 campuses. The institution includes Kansai Gaidai University (a 4-year university), Kansai Gaidai College (with 2-year AA program), and a graduate school.
The school is a leader in international education, sending around 1,600 students overseas each year and attracting over 700 foreign students.
Special 'Intensive English Studies' and 'Advanced English' courses provide Japanese students with the opportunity to study with well-qualified native speakers of English. A similar program is available for Spanish majors. Kansai Gaidai currently employs nearly 60 teachers (all under contracts as advertised here) in these programs for intensive language study on its 2 campuses.
