The University of Montana is a public, state, II research university with 13,900 students; Toyo University is a private university in central Tokyo with 30,000 students.
Job Description
English Language Instructor working as University of Montana employee assigned to teach for the 2010-11 academic year at Toyo University in Tokyo, Japan (September 1, 2010-August 31, 2011).
Instructor will teach eight classes a week on the Japanese system (90-minute classes) in an experimental Special English Project designed to prepare a small percentage of Toyo students for study in the United States in the subsequent year. Short-course (2-3 week) TESOL-Prep Course and English Camp in February and/or March. The Special English Program is now in its fourth year.
Instructor is expected to work collaboratively for the program and to develop curriculum so that the best practices can be replicated. We are seeking an imaginative, creative, enthusiastic instructor who exhibits the TEFL/TESL profession's best practices.
Toyo students apply (600 in 2006-07) from all class levels and are selected (300 in 2006-07) for these English classes on the basis of past language-learning performance and an achievement exam; the students take the classes in addition to the typical academic load at Toyo.
NOTES: up to 6 openings. International candidates will be considered. Employer will assist with relocation costs. A modern apartment in downtown Tokyo is provided; travel to and from Tokyo is provided, UM retirement and Japanese health insurance provided.
The University will hold interviews at the JobMarket at the TESOL Convention in Boston, March 24-27, 2010. Qualified applicants who can not attend TESOL will be interviewed by phone. Applications will be reviewed from April 15 until the positions are filled.

Requirements
Requirements:
(1) MA in TESOL or TESOL-related field required.
(2) Native or near-native English language competency.
(3) Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
(4) Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrative staff.
(5) Ability to live and work effectively in a non-English-speaking environment.
(6) Detailed Letter of Application laying out qualifications, résumé, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation submitted in sealed/signed envelopes by writer and posted in a single mailing by the applicant.
