Huaiyin Institute of Technology ( HIT ) is a multi-discipline engineering school under Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission. The undergraduate education at HIT is also offered on various fields such as economics, management, literature, agronomy and natural science. It is located in Huaian, Jiangsu Province, the birthplace of previous Premier Zhou Enlai, the giant in China, covering an area about 350 acres. HIT mainly undertakes common undergraduate education. It consists of 12 departments and 2 colleges, namely the Mechanical Engineering Department, Electronics and Information Engineering Department, Computer Engineering Department, Civil Engineering Department, Transportation Engineering Department, Biological & Chemical Engineering Department, Agricultural & Food Engineering Department, Economics and Management Department, Foreign Languages Department, Human Culture & Social Science Department, Computing Sciences Department. It also has one Physical Education Department and two affiliated schools which are Jianghuai College and Continuing Education College. HIT now has 31 undergraduate academic programs with more than 141,000 students enrolled, more than 1,200 teaching and administrative staff, inclusive of some 780 faculty, of whom about 190 professors, associate-professors and senior academic staff, more than 340 are doctors and graduates. HIT has infrastructure of complete modern teaching and experiment equipment. The libraries in HIT have 8,800,000 volumes of books, various of different kinds of 1475 periodicals both in Chinese and foreign languages. HIT now has one provincial major discipline, one provincial special program, one provincial major laboratory, one provincial engineering center and two provincial management teaching experiment centers. In recent 4 years, HIT has gone in for 91 scientific research projects in Huai'an City. Faculty have published 1878 academic theses, among them 492 paper are on Chinese core periodicals, and many articles are adapted by SCI EI ISTP CA. It has applied for 10 professional patent programs and some technical results have been popularized and applied in many provinces all over the country. For many years with the development of the institute, HIT is always taking teaching quality as its critical goal. "Unity, Diligence, Earnest and Creativity" has been cultivated as the fine surroundings on campus and it has formed its characteristics in its development, that is, HIT emphasizes different disciplines crisscrossing and osmosis with each other and lays stress on cultivation of students�� creative spirit and practical abilities. HIT also attaches importance to the combination of engineering with management and strengthens foreign language learning and computer teaching. HIT has gone on with credit system and offer auxiliary programs and is engaging in fruitful scientific and cultural activities on campus in order to completely improve students' comprehensive characters in term of capabilities and qualities. In HIT there are a lot of students being awarded in out-class scientific and technical competitions both in Jiangsu Province and over the country. Students have always been practicing to possess fine characters with broad knowledge, diligence and earnest, capabilities of practice and courage of keeping forging ahead. A mass of spiritual and energetic graduates from HIT are playing active role in different fields of management, scientific research, education and production. HIT has taken active steps in international communications. It has established cooperative relations in school-running with foreign universities including Curtin University of Technology in Australia, Curtin University of Technology in Malaysia, Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology in Canada, State Transport University of Byelorussia, Cuyahoga Community College in U.S.A., and Tezukayama University in Japan. HIT has already had quite a few teachers and students studying in U.S.A., Canada and Japan as well as some experts from U.S.A., Canada, Australia and New Zealand teaching on campus. |
