Your resume is how potential employers will assess your skills and qualifications for a position. Most schools review resumes and select the ones that stand out for the interview phase of the hiring process. Taking the time to create a resume that display your academic qualifications and experience will put you ahead of the others in the stack of resumes. Education and training is an important component to include on any resume for teaching English worldwide. The employer or recruiter will be scanning resumes to make sure the applicants have the minimum qualifications, so having a well written and comprehensive section devoted to showing them that you have the qualifications required is important. You should highlight your education and training as it relates to ESL, such as advanced degrees in ESL and any additional TEFL or TESOL training that you have taken. The next section they look at is your experience in teaching English as a Second Language. You can include your teaching experience in schools, as well as internships, volunteer work and community service. For example, if your resume is light on ESL teaching experience, you can highlight volunteer work that you have done teaching English to adults in your community or working with ESL kids in an after school program. Your cover letter is an important tool in your job search. This is your opportunity to communicate with the school to which you are applying. If you are applying for jobs in different areas of education or regions of the world, create a basic cover letter and revisit the template to tailor it to the requirements of individual positions. You can take a basic cover letter and add details about you and your career history that speak directly to the specific position. |
