RUSM operates an infant to 3 YO day care (average 25 children) and a Pre-K (4 YO) to 8th Grade (average 50 children with multi-grade classrooms) Preparatory School for children of faculty and medical students. The Prep School and Day Care operate year - round with complementary semester break care, a summer program, and after-school care. Although this school has an international setting and there are wonderful opportunities to incorporate diverse ways of learning, the school serves faculty and medical students who come primarily from North America; therefore United States educational standards provide the foundation for the academic program. The RUSM Master Plan calls for a new Prep School/Day Care building to be built; tentative start date 2013 and completion targeted for Fall 2014.

The Principal reports to the Associate Dean-Student Affairs (ADSA) and has primary responsibility in four areas:

Provide leadership, supervision, and budget accountability for the day to day operation of the RUSM Prep School and Day Care (approximately 10 FTE and $500,000.00 budget)

Provide faculty development, curriculum development, and creative academic leadership designed to ensure student success in a diverse environment - so that all students are prepared to return to their home country to complete their education

Responsible for the development and implementation of school policies, regulations, procedures and Code of Conduct - maintaining a Prep School and Day Care Handbook

Commitment to building a vibrant and dynamic learning environment that demonstrates a high level of student achievement in academics and character by establishing and maintaining a school climate of trust and respect.

Specific tasks:

Utilizing a coaching and mentoring approach provide supervision, evaluation, and staff development in a positive manner

Design, implement, and where applicable enforce policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct as they relate to the student experience and environment.

Develop a professional and collaborative relationship with parents and the Parent Council

Maintain registration and all student records related to academics, tuition, and special needs

Develop printed materials, information packets, brochures, web page content and email communications especially as they relate to student transitions on and off the island; providing resource materials and support as needed

Attend weekly Student Affairs Leadership Team meetings; establish a process for faculty/staff meetings keeping all members of the Prep School/Day Care informed
Support at-risk, special need students through coordination with faculty, parents, and special education resources

Provide staff and programs to support care for all ages between semesters, summer session, and after school care

Establish a climate of continuous improvement with clear academic standards and objectives for a comprehensive assessment and evaluation plan for all grades and all instruction

Review and assess all teaching resources, text books, lesson plans, technology based resources, etc

Ensure the facility, learning spaces, and play equipment are maintained in a healthy and safe manner

Collaborate with campus resources such as counseling services, health clinic, and student affairs to provide seamless assistance to all families

Qualifications Include;

Candidates must hold a Master's degree (PhD, EdD preferred) in Education, Education Administration, or closely related field.

Minimum 5 years of teaching experience, with appropriate teaching certifications; some experience in special education would be helpful

Minimum 3-5 years of school administration; Administrators Certification desirable
Experience in United States school system and US Common Core State Standards
