The NYU School of Professional Studies American Language Institute (ALI) has a worldwide reputation for helping students and professionals perfect their English communications skills, serving both NYU undergraduate and graduate students as well as an external market. The institute is in a period of expansion with main areas of growth focusing on: expanded engagement across the University, including both the development of courses for particular schools and assessment of international students; the development of sites across the globe, adding to our current ALI in Tokyo and Shanghai, with possible institutes in other locations; and expansion of our current programs and of custom programs for both corporate clients and special groups.

The ALI is seeking an Assistant Director for Academics/Language Lecturer to join the leadership team at the institute. The Assistant Director for Academics/Language Lecturer will work closely with the Director and manage all aspects of the Comprehensive English Program (CEP), the Academic English Program (AEP), and the Professional English Program (PEP) and the provision of faculty and student services. The incumbent will also work closely with the leadership team to provide support for summer programs, custom programs and diploma programs. He or she will supervise professional and instructional staff and serve as the primary contact for program coordinators regarding the daily operations of programs. He or she will also work closely with leadership team members in the areas of assessment, administration, and special programs. Duties will include determining faculty assignments and scheduling faculty for classes, overseeing the processes for hiring, onboarding, and observing faculty, and overseeing the academic needs of the programs such as the administration of diagnostic and exit exams and the dissemination of academic policies. Teaching responsibilities will be determined each semester.

Maintaining close relationships with advisors and other stakeholders within the School and throughout the University regarding student placement, conditional admissions for international students and student support services, will be instrumental for the incumbent's success. The Assistant Director for Academics/ Language Lecturer will also manage collaborations with observation and internship programs for the institute.

Qualifications:
Masters degree in TESOL, Linguistics or a related field required. Three years of progressive experience in higher education administration or equivalent combination required. Experience in an Intensive English Program preferred. Must include professional experience in program development, increasingly responsible experience in program administration, working closely with instructional staff, supervising staff.

The successful candidate will be able to plan, develop and implement innovative academic programs and develop retention strategies. Other knowledge and skills include: proven ability to successfully manage administration of an academic or non-profit department. Sensitivity to diverse customs and cultures. Demonstrated ability to work with senior-level administrators to maintain quality and effect change. Ability to evaluate programs and instructional staff. Highly developed interpersonal skills with ability to work with a diverse population of managers, ESL instructors, university staff and international students. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Familiarity with educational technology including online learning.
