BUSINESS ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR POSITION IN TOKYO, JAPAN

UCLA Extension’s American Language Center (ALC), in collaboration with Toyo University, is seeking an instructor to teach business English, and, possibly, other courses to students and professionals. This instructor is an employee of Toyo University.
The dates for this position are approximately April 9 – June 12, 2016. Classes meet for three hours on Saturdays or Sundays.
There is a possibility this position is extended after that date.
Courses will be offered at a range of English proficiency levels and focus on presentation skills, pronunciation, business writing, oral fluency, and a wide range of language functions and usage.
We are seeking an experienced ESL/EFL instructor with an M.A. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. An MBA and/or in-depth business experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a business English instructor, be comfortable living and working in Japan, and be familiar with Japanese corporate and academic culture.
The business English instructor will need to communicate and work effectively with an off-site UCLA Extension supervisor and, at the same time, maintain excellent working relationships with the Toyo University staff, with students and professionals with differing language proficiencies. Up to a week of training will be provided to prepare the instructor.
The instructor will teach in one or more program areas depending on assignment; participate in placement testing, evaluation, and orientation activities. Additionally, the instructor will make use of Canvas, the learning management system, for the program.
Prepare and present course content in keeping with the course title and description of assigned classes;
Develop tests and evaluation activities based on material taught, including a final test or evaluation.
Conduct assessment of participant characteristics, needs and interests to maximize effectiveness of curriculum and instruction.
Adjust teaching style and materials to the needs of participants with a variety of personalities and learning styles;
Adapt curricula and provide materials to compensate for deficiencies in published textbooks.
Provide syllabus and attendance policy to each participant for each course taught in accordance with program guidelines.
Keep accurate records of participant attendance and submit records in keeping with departmental instructions and calendar/deadlines of the program.
Keep accurate records of participant progress and complete final grade and level recommendations at the end of the program.
Participate in placement and orientation activities (proctor tests, read placement essays as assigned, etc.).
Attend and participate in closing ceremonies and other program-related social activities.
Respond to administrative requests promptly.
This is a 3-month position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
