Assistant Director, English Language Institute

Duties: Assists Director with budget overview monthly/special payroll, monthly time entry, etc. Serves as Acting Director in the Director’s absence.
Assigns courses, hires/supervises flex instructors and term instructors, leads faculty meetings, organizes faculty professional development opportunities.
Supervises level coordinators, manages curriculum development, oversees curricular initiatives, including textbook selection, curriculum review and modification.
Supervises student testing and course placement, advises students on curricular matters and course placement. Coordinates collection of student grades, probationary reviews, and awards. Advises students regarding academic placement after study at the Institute.
Other administrative duties include supervision of administrative staff, review of program materials.
Manages regular external reviews (UCIEP, EnglishUSA), develops and manages student achievement indicators. Demonstrates ongoing professional development.
Teaches 3 core ELI courses per year or as determined by ELI Director.
Education: Earned Master’s in ESOL, language education, or applied linguistics with emphasis on SLA. Experience: Experience in teaching and administration within an intensive English program, with experience in supervising instructional staff. Job Skills: Knowledge of principles of second language acquisition, knowledge and direct experience of instruction for English language learners. Knowledge of international education programs and intensive English programs in university settings. Experience using a database or registration system for instructional programs. Record-keeping skills. Competence in cross-cultural communication. High level of English proficiency. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: 5 or more years of teaching and administration in an intensive English program. Experience in using Canvas LMS or similar instructional management system. Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Demonstrated ability to work in teams. Experience with reporting requirements for professional associations. Experience with instruction of University level students in credit-bearing courses.
This is a regular, full-time, 12-month appointment. All applicants must be authorized to work in the US on a long-term basis. Successful candidates must be capable of, and enjoy working with, diverse people, locally and internationally. Must be willing to have flexible work schedule as there are required weekend or evening duties. Must be willing to travel for conference attendance and professional meetings. Must be willing to accept new duties as assigned by Director.
