ASQ Education are representing an excellent teaching assistant/learning support assistant for one of our client schools in Central / South London. You should be (ideally) degree educated and have experience working with young people in schools or related settings. The role starts in September and will run for the full academic year.
You will be working as a teaching assistant/learning support assistant within the SEN department of this Mainstream school, supporting pupils on a one to one basis in their classes. As this is a single sex school, you would be working with only female students.
Part of the role could also be supporting students in their understanding of core subject areas such as Science. Maths and English so applicants will ideally have good GCSE or A-Level passes in these subjects also.
The students ages will range from 12 years old to 16 years old. They have mixed learning and behavioural SEN. However, the SEN is not severe. A confident but sensitive approach to working with the students usually means they respond well. Non confrontational approach essential.
The role will start in September and will go thorugh to the end of the academic year in July 2017. The school often support their staff into further developing into more senior roles within the department or if they then want to go on to do teacher training.

To be considered for this position, you must should be able to demonstate most of the following:
Already a Teaching Assistant/Learning Support Assistant
Similar experience (min of 6 months) from another field with very transferrable skills (working with young people)
Strong behaviour Management
Good rapport with young people
Genuine passion for education
Strong interpersonal skills
Friendly and professional manner
This is a well-run co-ed comprehensive school which achieves good exam results. The school has a firm reputation within the borough and is a training school for teachers.
The last Ofsted report graded the school as good.
