About the Position
Key responsibilities:
Grade 9 -12 English teaching
Develop a high performance culture in English Language teaching and raising the profile of the subject throughout the school.
Create and deliver Project Based Lessons and ensure all curriculum delivery is in line with 21st century thinking/methodology.
Ensure efficient use of resources and encourage creativity and innovation in curriculum development and implementation.
Ensure that the values of the school are adhered to in the Language department.
Undertake such duties as directed by the Head of School.
Main Activities:
1) Quality of Teaching and Learning
Develop and administer Project Based Learning at the school.
Ensure that curriculum delivery is in line with 21st century learning.
Provide excellent teaching, assessment and recording and reporting of students' results.
Support colleagues within the faculty of Languages, and the school, so that they may become excellent teachers.
Support other staff in achieving excellence in their work.
Deliver outstanding student outcomes and to support colleagues in achieving the same.
Keep up to date with national developments in the subject, teaching practice and methodology.
Raise the quality of teaching and learning at the school.
2) Staff Development
To act as a Critical Friend to teachers and other classroom based professionals.
Provide support where needed
Give honest and constructive feedback
Share useful and well researched information
To support colleagues experiencing difficulties.
To work with colleagues in other institutions as appropriate.
3) General School Leadership Responsibilities
Lead by example as a teacher achieving high standards of student attainment and progress, behaviour and motivation through effective teaching.
Serve as form tutor for nominated classes.
Sustain effective, positive relationships with all staff, pupils, parents/carers, governors and the local community.
Maintain clear expectations and high standards of professionalism.
Attend school events and activities as directed by the Head of Schools.
4) Qualifications and Overall Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Education or Bachelor's Degree with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
SACE Registration
Be in possession of a Clearance Certificate in terms of the National Sexual Offenders Register
Solid understanding of enquiry based teaching and learning
A minimum of five years' Grade 9 - 12 IEB English teaching experience
Excellent verbal and written English skills
A team-player with considerable interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate with the relevant age group
Flexibility and the ability to respond positively to change
Able to incorporate technology into teaching practice, show creativity and motivation in the classroom and work effectively as a member of a team
