Hello Melissa and welcome to the world of TEFL teaching. I have received this question many times over my 15 years of teaching abroad.

My number one piece of advice: “If it sounds too good to be true, it problem is.”
My second piece of advice: “NEVER send money for the promise of employment.”

I have actually put together some resources to (1) give you advice and identify scams, (2) share any scams you encounter, and (3) advice on how to avoid scams and protect your identity.

Teaching Scams Advice (How to spot them and how to report them)
More Advice on Scams and Protecting from Identity Theft

And if you find one, please share it on the Teaching Scams Forum at https://www.tesall.com/esl-tesol-scams

    Best of Luck!
