By: Canada Language Study < Show E-mail >

    Date: Tue, 12 Jan 2010

    Location: Canada (North America)

Experience Canadian culture and beautiful nature at this homestay school. Live with your teacher and other students for total immersion and fast progress. Get individualized help and a custom program to meet your needs.

This program is for adult students over 19 and including mature students 50+.

It is for all levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced.

It is especially secure and safe for female students as the teacher is female and will always be close by if needed. She will drive you to local events and activities (no local bus) and be available to you. Rooms for male and female students are on different levels at the teacher’s house.

The school is located in a rural area in a beautiful area of Canada, in the southern interior of British Columbia. It is an area of forests, rivers and lakes. You are surrounded by nature.

Your teacher is a qualified (BA English, CERTESL Certificate) and experienced ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. Her qualifications are certified by TESL Canada. TESL Canada sets standards for teacher qualifications.

The homestay school is designed for intensive immersion and fast progress. You will live with other students, 2 or 3, and your female teacher as a household. This means that you will use English all the time and progress quickly. You will have 25 hours a week of classroom instruction, plus homework, and do and go to lots of activities and events where you can use your English and interact with Canadians.

In this program, you will use English and only English all day, every day for everything. The classes are five (5) hours a day, Monday to Friday plus homework and also opportunities for individualized learning. The program will be customized and individualized to meet your needs. Using your English in the community is an important part of the program. This is a good program if you need preparation in Canadian culture before studying at a college or university in Canada or volunteering in the WWOOF program on organic farms in Canada.

You will go to activities in the community such as pot luck dinners, musical events, visiting farmer's markets and watching live theatre and talk to Canadians. You will USE English, not just study it. You and the other students will choose which events you want to go to.

There is a good variety of text books and listening material. The main focus is on conversation - speaking and listening - but reading and writing is also included for an integrated program.

The homestay is a three (3) bedroom house. You will receive three (3) meals a day and snacks. Also, you will have the use of a bicycle in the summer and snowshoes in the winter. You will participate in normal daily household life such as helping, based on your ability and interest, in cooking, eating and clearing up after. This informal conversation will contribute to your confidence and fluency.

The homestay school is located in British Columbia in a river valley with nature all around and forested hillsides. The home is on 20 hectares of nature with trees, wildflowers, a creek and nature trails. You can cycle the country roads to the Shuswap River which is close by. This is an almost 100 percent English speaking area. People are friendly and you will have lots of opportunities to use English and experience Canadian culture. This is a small, safe, friendly community with lots of beautiful nature – forests and lakes.

New sessions start once a month. Each session is four (4) weeks long. You can register for as many sessions as you want.

The cost of the program includes tuition, materials and use of text books, registration, homestay with all meals, entrance fees to activities, transportation to them by private car driven by the teacher, pick up and drop off at the local bus station. If you prefer to fly from Vancouver, there will be an additional cost to meet the plane in Kelowna.

You can see the location of the school on google maps if you type in Canada Language Study Grindrod. You can be there!
