Best Learning is an independent after school training program for children ages 3-12. Like most training schools in China, they are focused on sales rather than the quality of their education. Some schools, however, do try and do things right by their parents and they try hard to please the parents (although sometimes fibbing to the parents). If the parents are pleased they refund. Apologies, I tried to reply to this comment just a moment ago but I believe I accidentally included the wrong text, which happened to be information about our application process and timetable. Problems with the cutting and pasting... :) Thank you for the message, and as TLA's acting HR Manager, I want to assure you that our updated website will be up either by the end of this current week or the start of the next one. Our Tech Department is cu....

Many have contacted me regarding job offers from this Sude English language school at http://www.sudenglish.org/. One visitor actually posted a question in the Q&A at http://www.tesall.com/tesol-questions/7 but when another user responded about that application process, I thought it was worrisome. 1. Their online presence: They have no online history via the search engines (not one mention anywhere except to ask who they are) which is odd ....

Ok. So a friend of mine has been offered a job overseas and spent most of his time dealing directly with the people in the country he has decided to go to rather than with footprints (who put in the initial contact with the country). I'm interested because I am "looking" to go to Georgia. He told me he received a waiver and release of liability agreement that he was quite happy to sign. Is this standard practice? If so, isn't it a bit negligib....

I would not worry overly much because Footprints Recruiting is a very established recruiting company with a good reputation, similar to Teach Away. They are professional and thorough. Regarding going around a recruiter, I believe some of the places (such as the Republic of Georgia Education Ministry) sign agreement with recruiters because they don't want to be involved (or don't have the expertise/staff to recruit directly). Regarding the wa....

But if you are a woman teaching in Georgia; beware- there are many dangers. I will start a new thread discussing life in Georgia as a single woman. And for anyone wanting to do this program; remember this- you are stuck in whatever village they throw you in; you have no choice. And if you are a man- you will have a different experience than a woman. Footprints might be reputable, but this program in Georgia is relatively new and very flawed. East....

Asking for user input/help in investigating. As admin, I usually try to screen jobs as best as possible using two simple criteria. Firstly, does the offer sound "too good to be true". If yes, then secondly I check the email address to see if it is from a legitimate source. This job has left me confused so asking for help: http://www.tesall.com/esl-tesol-jobs?id=57096 It offers almost 5,000 GBPs a month which sets off alarm bells for scam but....

Victoria: Thanks for the heads up and help. Yes, it is definitely a scam. Dead give aways: A UK Government agency have an email with .kt (workpermit@ukhomeofficegov.tk)? No interview...just send your passport? Naturally, the biggest scam indicator was the salary offered on the original posting. I just can't believe that scammers are actually using top tier domain names to do their scamming! Usually those domain names are outside of the s....

Hello Karen: Most countries make it part of their work permit/employment status that you must have a TEFL/TESOL to be able to teach in their country. That being said, most countries wave this requirement if your degree is in education and/or you have a valid teacher license from your native country. Thanks! Admin ....

I was recently accepted into a CELTA course, but I would have to drive to it each day. Considering the traffic on most days it will probably take 1 1/2 hrs to get to the area of the class and then 30 minutes to park my car in the parking garage and walk to class. It will take about the same amount of time to walk get home. Perhaps on some days I will be really lucky and if there are no accidents on the road I could get take 10 or 15 minutes of....

I have taken a CELTA class before in Thailand and I found it very helpful when starting out my career. Also, it was intensive so be ready. Regarding the commute. What can you do? Though I started my career in Korea, I took my CELTA in Thailand because of the lower cost of living. Regardless, I would have to commute but sometimes there is no choice. Maybe search out a CELTA course abroad that is locate in an inexpensive country like Thailand....

ESL job scams (views: 5856)

I wonder if other ESL teachers have had 'too good to be true' job offers sent to their email box? I refer particularly to one Aberdeen job. I was sucked in. Only when I saw a similar worded ad on another ESL site did the penny drop. The trouble is they then have your address, qualifications, etc. I wondered why I never heard again from similar type 'jobs.' Does anyone know what the border agency has to do with this? ....

Maggie: Unfortunately, ESL job scams (and all types of job scams) are multiplying like flies across the internet. Regardless, they always take certain formats:1. "Tutor my kids...": They are recently transferred to a new country or working with a multi-national and are looking for someone to be a nanny/tutor for their kids. They collect all the information and then ask for money to book the ticket (refundable) or some such excuse to get money.2. ....

I think the golden rule is, never send money to anyone to get a job. Not to an agent for finding you work, not to a school to process your papers, just don't send a penny. If there are expenses and the school is genuine then they will pay them up front and they will be deducted from your first month's wages and you'll know about this in advance.....
