I thought I would share some information I recently sent out to a user regarding a job offer they received via email and asked me to look at to see if it was real. Below you will find (1) my email to them about what I thought of the offer, (2) a copy of the email with the job offer information and (3) a copy of the 'contract' sent offering the job.

    Dear XXX:

Firstly, my best advice is to limit the information you send to anyone before accepting a positions. For example, with regards to your passport, you should “smudge/blur” the bar coding at the bottom which is used by US immigration to identify/scan your passport. In addition, you can do the same to your passport number.

With regards to this job offer. It is hard to tell but I will say the following:
    1. Abu Dhabi Education Zone http://www.adez.ae/ seems like a new site that has limited information so may be a “front” but I think it is legitimate because the website is linked from Abu Dhabi Educational Council (http://www.adec.ac.ae/en/category/news/ ‘Popular Links’) which adds legitimacy to it.
    2. Ganiyat Gaffa: He/She has only ever provided you with a hotmail.com or worker.com email address. Who is he/she and do they have a more ‘permanent’ email address? I also noticed they have only ever given a P.O. Box for the address. Regarding the emails and addresses given:
    a. The address and phone numbers in the email do not match what is on the adez.ae site at http://www.adez.ae/portal/sitebuilder/sites/adez/Arabic/contactus.aspx and which also states to apply via the Ministry of Education
    i. Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adez.ae%2Fportal%2Fsitebuilder%2Fsites%2Fadez%2FArabic%2Fcontactus.aspx&sl=ar&tl=en
ii. The same is true of the email addresses on the contract. I don’t know of any government agency or quasi-governmental organization that will list hotmail and yahoo email addresses on their “contracts”.
    b. Why does the only “legitimate” (i.e. direct) email that Ganiyat list in his/her correspondence (Director Mr Mohammed Salem M Al Dhaheri,: Email info@?dez.ae) negate the email by putting a ‘?’ in it AND it is not hyperlinked like the other emails (his/hers) though it has been made to look like it is hyperlinked by making the email text underlined and blue.
    i. Mohammed Salem M Al Dhaheri is a real person and is a director and part of the council for the Abu Dhabi Educational Council.

All this being said, I would suggest that you contact Abu Dhabi Educational Zone directly via info@adez.ae and cc the Abu Dhabi Educational Council at info@adec.ac.ae with a copy of this “Contract” to verify that Ganiyat Gaffa is their representative/registrar and the application process. Rarely do government Ministries use registrars.

    Hope I have been helpful.

Thank you to the teachers that have let me know about the latest twist for teacher recruiting scams: Requesting a fee to process a "Certificate of Anti-Terrorism". For those teachers confronting this request, there is no such thing...

It is surprising how many emails I am getting from teachers who visit my Icon Group Thailand sites telling me they have received a similar offer of employment from Ganiyat Gaffa as a registrar for the Abu Dhabi Education Zone. Has anyone actually gotten a position they are currently working at through this person?Regardless, I hope all teachers look through job offers to make sure they meet some legitimacy criteria and also read through my Job Scams Advice and the site disclaimer which also gives some good advice about identity theft.AdminTESall Group
